Dinner at Jenni’s

February 25, 2007 by mommyjenni

Do you ever wish you could have dinner at my house?

Tonight I baked potatoes for dinner. Lilly’s favorite, Aiden on the other hand usually turns up his nose and asks where the rest of dinner is when we have potatoes. So I made a hot dog special just for him (his favorite.) He’d just sat down at the table next to his sister as I was busy placing potato fixin’s on the table, when he asked me, “Mom. What kind of hot dogs are these?” “Oscar Meyer – Is that okay with you Aiden?”

“I mean are they meat?” (Long pause) (One time Lilly told me [Read more…]

New photo gallery

zia-at-burningman2.jpgHey all, the Humboldt contingent has shared with us a selection of photos from 2006. They include some shots of Isaiah’s graduation, a family trip to Redding in the fall, and Zia’s adventure at Burning Man (pictured here). There’s also a few pictures from Atarah’s visit to Lubbock in 2006. Laura has some images of the new additions to her family, but she needs to tell us about them and upload the stuff herself.

Grandma’s Nano Phase

January 29, 2007 by Grandpa R

Ben is my witness. Grandma Nancy has entered her “Nano Phase.” This evening Ben managed to remove her Christmas Nano from its plastic sarcophagus in which Grandma had placed it for its own protection. But recently she had been unable to play music. The instrument seemed to be locked in a toggle status. Select an artist and click back to music. Select the artist. Back to music.

You understand, don’t you?

Well, Ben released the red Nano from its plastic case, and [Read more…]

Grandma’s House

January 26, 2007 by mommyjenni

Grandpa's HouseI remember how that place smelled. I can smell it now. Funny huh, the stuff that sticks. I also remember how Grandpa’s house smelled. His house smell is a little easier to articulate than Grandma’s house. There was this smell of books and old paper and dust and leather and wood and Barbosol and lilac bath fizzies –all at once. I remember what we ate when we visited. Breakfast was huge. Eggs and bacon, cereal and toast, orange juice and milk. Then dinner. Dinner was always a bucket of fried chicken. And corn on the cob! And cool glasses that [Read more…]

Blizzard of ’07

January 19, 2007 by Grandpa R

Well, the weather people had so many folks in Lubbock riled up about a series of snow storms coming in that most of the schools closed, and many events around town were canceled. The weather service Thursday even said we had a 100% chance of snow. They were saying we would have overnight drizzle and freezing rain, then everything would start busting loose about 6 a.m.

There was panic buying in the stores. Well, this morning I picked up the paper out of the yard about 5:45 a.m. Dry as the leaves snuggled up against the garage. Started raining about 7 or 7:30. I’m getting ready to go to lunch now, still waiting for the blizzard.

Oh, well.

Meditations

I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I’ll go to it laughing.
