Siblings & cousins

July 6, 2007 by Grandpa R

BARSTOW, CA — So, here we are on our annual pilgrimage to visit family and friends in California. We stopped in Barstow to get fuel for both our bodies and our conveyance. Circumstances dictated that dinner was to be provided by the Colonel.

Grandchild 1, familiar with the KFC menu called in his order for the chicken nugget “Laptop” meal. Grandchildren 2 and 3 (siblings) followed suit. When the meals were delivered, they contained among other things a granola bar. Aiden, 5, hands the bar to grandpa for label screening. Aiden has a peanut allergy.

The news was not favorable on that account, so Aiden surrendered his bar. Sibling Priscilla and cousin Davis, without prompting (or necessity) surrendered theirs as well.

“And a little child shall lead them.”

These include pictures from Lilly’s birthday (swim) party and pictures of the three cousins’ trip to California.

So I made a hot dog special just for him (his favorite.) He’d just sat down at the table next to his sister as I was busy placing potato fixin’s on the table, when he asked me, “Mom. What kind of hot dogs are these?” “Oscar Meyer – Is that okay with you Aiden?”

“I mean are they meat?” (Long pause) (One time Lilly told me [Read more…]
