Time to Get a Haircut

December 27, 2009 by mommyjenni

His hair fell out in clumps today. I teared up and he said, “Time to get a haircut.” He seems fine with it all. It’s me that falls apart every time something new happens.

Do you ever just feel like nothing is going your way? I decided that it wasn’t cancer when I sat in the hospital room, but the doctors said otherwise. I decided that they would get it all with the surgery, but the radiologist disagreed. So I decided that his blood work would be fine and markers would go back to normal after the tumor was removed, but the oncologist said, “Chemo.” Then I geared up and decided that he wouldn’t get sick, I was wrong again. Hair fell out in clumps today, and he says, “Time to get a haircut.”

I am ready for things to go the way that I want them to.

Fall is here

September 28, 2008 by mommyjenni

Fall is here.  This is my favorite season of the year. The weather on the South Plains has been typically mild (Sunny, mid 50’s in before sunup and low 80’s before sundown.)

The days are getting shorter as the sun goes down earlier and earlier everyday. The leaves are just starting to yellow and lawns are nearing their final days of green. Canada geese have not yet filled the pond across the street, but the grackles have arrived and are filling the trees in the park.

Funnel cakes, corndogs, and fresh squeezed lemonade. Bright lights, fast rides and blue ribbon winning livestock. The South Plains Fair is packing up just about ready to leave town.

Students have returned and Tech is back in full swing.  The Red Raiders are 3 and 0 and after last night are ranked 8 in the nation.  Go Red Raiders!

Soccer practice and homework fill our nights. That is, until prime time TV.  The new fall season of all our favorites has begun. The Office, Survivor, Lost and of course Sunday night football. Go Cowboys!

Half the seasonal aisles at the markets are filled with all the usual Halloween acroutements, the other half are filling with Christmas. Our costumes for this year’s haunt are already picked out.  Pirates all around. Can’t wait to hand out treats to all the little ghosts, goblins and ghouls who knock on my door. Before I know it, I will be picking out our holiday turkey and baking our traditional pumpkin pie.

Downpour

September 13, 2008 by mommyjenni

Lubbock received 8 inches of rain on Thursday! Yes, 8 inches in one 24 hour period.  Thats a record for Lubbock, and probably doubles our total rainfall for the year.  Our rain is coming from the Pacific not Ike.

The city mayor and county sheriff both declared Lubbock (City and County) in a state of emergency. The school district’s superintendent then decided to cancel all classes for Friday.

It has been rainy here for the past couple of weeks, and just before school started Aiden commented, “I wish it would rain so hard that they would cancel school.”  Friday morning when I woke him up and explained the school cancelation He exclaimed, “My dream really did come true!”

Say Hello to My Little Friend…

May 12, 2008 by mommyjenni

Abel, left, has a new friend, Honey.
Abel, left, has a new friend, Honey.

Wait, we’ve added one more to the bunch. Honey is a (approximately) 3 year old chihuahua. Abel is tolerating all 4 pounds of her. She on the other hand bears her teeth and snarls when he looks at her wrong.

The vet explained there is nothing to worry about – Like all married couples they will work it out.

Meditations

Behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward, … and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.
And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live
